The powerful tone of The Impossible was set excellently. And throughout the film, the atmosphere was consistently heart-wrenching with a dash of hope (mind you, with a story about the aftermath of a tsunami, causing the tear ducts to well up was not a difficult feat). Furthermore, the acting was great, though I wish Ewan McGregor had more screen time. There were, unfortunately, a slew of issues I had with the characters and progression, some of which seemed unbelievable even though it’s a true story. Also, there were moments that were dripping with pretension. Ultimately it was captivating but flawed.
